Gregory Vigo Torres

I'm a Spanish to English freelance translator living in Barcelona. My CV is available here and you can also send me a direct message or contact me by email at info@translatevigo.com.es. I specialize in modern and contemporary art, design and architecture, but I also have experience with tourism, cultural journalism and general business translations. See a sample translation or request a quote. I've been a freelance translator since 2007, I've lived in Spain since 2002 and in Barcelona since 2006. I have an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania (2002) and a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (1998). I studied painting, which is still my primary area of knowledge/interest, (see my paintings), and I also studied printmaking, art history and Spanish. Art is such a broad field (See some links to things I'm interested in), that I think it's relevant to specify that my primary expertise is in modern and contemporary painting and North American and European art from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, in particular (post)impressionism, cubism, other modern art movements, post-war American painting, pop & minimalism and, in particular, post-minimal art. Insofar as architecture and design, my interest and knowledge are based more in aesthetics and ideas than engineering, which doesn't mean I can't handle technical terminology, but rather that I'm not an engineer (...nor am I a doctor, economist or lawyer), so, if I'm not sure I can do a job well, I won't accept it, however tempted I may be to do otherwise. I'm not a programmer either, but I know enough about web site design to be able to translate web sites directly in HTML. And, I'm really trying to learn more Python, javascript and php.

I'm a bit of a free software fanatic. My main tools for translation are OmegaT & LibreOffice running under Xubuntu (GNU/Linux) which I use in conjunction with a number of other tools that are sometimes indispensible. All that being said, when it's really necessary, I use MS Office 2007 in Windows too. I guess I'm willing to compromise a little when doing otherwise might really be detrimental to the quality of the final product.
